Mathematical & Natural Sciences

PLANET_MFrancisF07Both inside and outside the classroom, the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences pursues the path to success. Maintaining a tradition of excellence established decades ago, the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences boasts an unusually high acceptance rate into graduate and professional schools: 90 percent acceptance rate into medical or osteopathic medicine school and 100 percent acceptance rate into dental, optometry and physicians’ assistant professional programs. The labs have received nine new instruments over the last few years, including the Varian 710-Es ICP Optical Emission Spectrometer, the Varian Saturn 2100T GC/MS, and the Spartan ’06 V112 Molecular Modeling Program—just to name a few. In addition, Hyde Hall houses the M.D. Anderson Planetarium, a rare find in any college or university; and the Planetarium Director, who holds a Ph.D. in Physics and Astronomy from Rutgers University, sponsors several programs each semester for students as well as for the community at large. Offering both Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees, the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences provides five possible majors: chemistry, biology, environmental science, environmental studies and mathematics.
