STATEMENT OF MISSION AND PURPOSE:
The mission of Lambuth University, an institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church, is to provide students with a broad-based liberal arts education of high quality which stimulates free inquiry, critical thinking, cultural understanding, and sense of purpose within a Christian, person-centered environment that prepares them for meaningful careers, leadership, global citizenship, service to God and humanity, and the lifelong pursuit of truth and knowledge. (Approved by Board of Trustees in February of 2006)
VISION STATEMENT: Lambuth University will be the premier church related liberal arts university in the South.
CORE VALUES:
1. Christian Environment
“Whatsoever things are true,” Philippians 4:8, our University motto, describes our commitment to a Christian environment that mandates personal integrity, character building, and the pursuit of truth.
2. A broad-based educational experience with meaningful vocational preparedness
Lambuth is committed to excellence in teaching and learning, by providing a combination of a broad-based educational experience with meaningful vocational preparedness, taught by a dedicated faculty.
3. Diversity of thought
Students will gain cultural understanding, be aware of both their local and global contexts, experience a diversity of thought, cultivate an appreciation for the arts, and seek lifelong learning.
4. Nurturing environment
Lambuth provides a nurturing environment that encourages student growth and advances student engagement both inside and outside the classroom.
5. Christian stewardship and serviceThe Lambuth community fosters Christian stewardship and service, with many servant leadership opportunities offered throughout campus that promotes civic and social responsibility.
GENERAL INSTITUTIONAL GOALS FOR 2006 - 2011:
(The following goals are not listed in any order of priorities. All are extremely important goals.)
ACADEMIC GOALS:

To provide a teaching oriented faculty that is appropriate in size and responsibility and that is accomplished in instructional effectiveness, scholarship, and professional activities.

To enroll and retain students with strong academic credentials.

To provide a distinctive curriculum that fosters high levels of student achievement in general education and departmental programs.

To provide a system of instructional practices, which demonstrates excellence in content expertise, academic attitude, instructional design, instructional delivery, and course management.

To provide an academic advising system that maintains informed advisors and that assists students in developing appropriate and desired educational plans.

To maintain a level of student performance that equals or surpasses that of national liberal arts colleges as measured by accepted indicators of student outcomes.
EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES GOALS:
1. Through a broad-based curriculum built on a strong foundation in the liberal arts, the Lambuth graduate will have:
- Oral, written, and visual communication skills that enable effective listening, comprehension, and expression.
- Scientific and quantitative reasoning abilities including an understanding of the impact of science on society and an appreciation of the logic and power of
- mathematical relationships.
- Critical analysis, creative thinking, and reasoning skills which enhance inquiry, problem solving, and decision making.
- Ability to gather, evaluate, and manage information using appropriate, current technology.
- Historical awareness and multicultural understanding.
- Competence in one or more field of knowledge leading to career readiness and/or pursuit of graduate/professional study.
2. The overall Lambuth experience seeks to produce a graduate who will exhibit:
- An understanding of Christian, ethical, and spiritual principles.
- Emotional and physical well-being.
- Good citizenship, community service, and social responsibility.
- An appreciation of the arts including their purpose and importance.
- Leadership, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills.
- A desire for life-long learning and the search for truth.
CAMPUS ATMOSPHERE GOALS:
Lambuth University will foster a campus atmosphere where students, faculty, and staff will be able to learn and grow in a community of collegiality, respect, trust, open communication, and reciprocal support.
In order to support its campus atmosphere goal, Lambuth will:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Christian principles of personal integrity, character building, and the pursuit of truth.
- Emphasize excellence in teaching and life-long learning throughout the campus
community.
- Create opportunities for dialogue and experiences that will broaden perspectives and
enrich lives.
- Support activities, programs, and educational opportunities that express acommitment of
faculty and staff to professional growth and to serving students.
- Promote Christian stewardship and servant leadership both on and off-campus.
PROGRAM GOALS:
- Explore initiating new academic programs to attract new students as determined by faculty.
- Develop program to analyze and coordinate retention efforts across campus.
- Develop a programmatic, systematic approach to use alumni in support of admissions.
- Add service learning component to core curriculum.
- Develop a program that will enhance the ability of residence halls to contribute to student learning.
- Provide programs and events to raise public awareness of the value of Lambuth University.
- Develop programs to connect Lambuth University more closely to the Memphis and Tennessee conferences of the United Methodist church.
- Strengthen and create relationships with all community colleges within 100-mile radius of Lambuth University.
- Explore the possibility of educational/enrichment programs for youth and adults.
- Over the next 5 years, the University will conduct a comprehensive overall review of curriculum for coordination and relevancy.
- Develop local business partnerships for internships, experiential learning, and job placement.
- Offer the services of Lambuth University for business and industry in the Jackson area for professional development.
- Develop programs that will equip students to function effectively in the global marketplace.
