Psychology - Professors

David C. Dietrich, B.A., M.S., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Psychology

Dr. Dietrich, a counseling psychologist and licensed health service provider who joined Lambuth's faculty in 1998, received his B.A. in psychology from Rhodes College and his M.S. and Ph.D. in counseling psychology from The University of Memphis. Dr. Dietrich's primary areas of interest are clinical/counseling psychology, history of psychology, and the interdisciplinary study of psychology. In addition to his faculty activities, Dr. Dietrich is actively involved in providing workshops for the Lambuth and Jackson communities. How to Talk to Your Teens And Have Them Hear You and Surviving Your Child's Freshman Year in College are two of his most recent programs.

Prior to joining Lambuth's faculty, Dr. Dietrich served as director of the Youth Habilitation Center in Memphis as well as completed an internship at the University of Pittsburgh College Counseling Center. On a lighter note, Dr. Dietrich has been involved in soccer most of his life. After completing his playing career, he went on to coach a high school soccer team to a state championship and receive the honor of being named Tennessee's Soccer Coach of the Year. Since entering the field of psychology full time, Dr. Dietrich has assisted in coaching a number of club teams as well as the Rhodes College men's and women's soccer teams.


Cheryl A. Bowers, B.S., M.S., Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Psychology

Dr. Bowers, an experimental psychologist who joined Lambuth's faculty in 1996, received her B.S. in psychology from Lambuth and her M.S. and Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from the University of Memphis. Dr. Bowers' research interests lie in the areas of teaching strategies, the impact of technology in the classroom, and development in young children and young adults.

Dr. Bowers is actively involved in psychology programming at Lambuth. She was founder of the Lambuth Psychology Club, is a charter sponsor of the Lambuth Psi Chi chapter, was founder of the Mid-South Psychology Conference, and is editor of Explorations in Psychology.

In addition to professional activities at Lambuth, Dr. Bowers is involved in professional community service and consulting. She consults with community agencies, provides workshops and talks on issues such as Factors that Impact Memory, Gender Differences in Workplace Communication, and Childhood and Adolescent Development. Beyond professional programs and consulting, Dr. Bowers has been actively involved in other areas of community service such as with the local Boys and Girls Club. Dr. Bowers was founder of the Operation Snack Food Program that provides local children at the Boys and Girls Club with needed after school snacks while she also coordinates student-led programs at the Club.
