Religious Organizations

Alpha Omega - Alpha Omega is Christian men’s service and spiritual growth group. We recognize that many different denominations exist, but we also recognize that every church focuses on the example of Jesus Christ. Alpha Omega performs service activities, participates in campus intramurals, organizes prayer meetings and concerts on campus and works together to direct each member toward a more Christ-like example.

Alpha Omega has seen the lives of many young men changed and guided toward a closer walk with Christ. Any male, whether a member of Alpha Omega or not, is welcome to come to Alpha Omega meetings. Understanding and Practice of Ministry

  • Students will practice and contemplate sacraments and sacramental rites of the ministry practice (baptism, communion and biblical practices of anointing and laying on of hands for prayer).
  • Likewise, students will participate in case studies where they will be asked to prepare mock funeral sermons and liturgies for members of hypothetical churches where they might serve.
  • Members of this group will also study and review the differences and similarities between contemporary and traditional services, focusing the use of liturgy as art form within the church.
  • Students will review and study different forms and methods of preaching from history and contemporary worship.
  • The Pre-Ministry Group will also host a variety of speakers who will deal with subjects like death and mourning, recognizing drug and alcohol addiction and understanding the seminary process.

Practices of Spiritual Formation

Over a three-year cycle, students will study and learn some of the classic spiritual practices of the historic church. Such study and practice will give students the opportunity to experience the scriptures in the many “senses” in which some of the greatest Christian thinkers approached biblical texts.

  • Year 1—Benedictine Spirituality—Lectio Divina—the art of “Sacred Reading” or praying the scriptures.
  • Year 2—Franciscan Spirituality—a very practical form of faith that emphasizes living your faith as spiritual practice.
  • Year 3—The Ignatian Way—an active engagement of scripture where students focus their attention on placing themselves in the context of a passage and focusing on understanding the actual circumstances of a biblical narrative in the hopes of hearing God’s truth more clearly.

This group helps focus the religious efforts of the student body aiding in the organization of mission events and worship retreats. Meetings are held every second and fourth Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Christian Life Center.

Soup Kitchen and RIFA (Regional Inter-Faith Association) - Students are given the opportunity to volunteer time by serving at the local Soup Kitchen. Students will also be given the opportunity to collect food items and clothes through fundraisers and collection drives during the semester. Dates to be announced.
