Lambuth University Continues NCAA DII Membership Process
Jackson, Tennessee, July 12, 2010:
The NCAA Membership Committee voted to have Lambuth University continue in their membership process but remain at the 1st-year level. The process for NCAA Division II eligibility includes a two-year candidacy period, and a provisional year before becoming a full-fledged member of the NCAA.
"This is definitely a good thing for Lambuth University. It means we are still in the membership process. Even after all that our school has gone through, the committee still sees Lambuth University as a viable candidate for NCAA membership," says Ken Brown, Director of Lambuth University Athletics. "I am pleased that the NCAA is continuing to keep Lambuth in the application process," adds Dr. Bill Seymour, President of Lambuth University. "While they still have us in a holding pattern, this is a sign of support that gives us additional time to make the athletic and institutional improvements we all want to see." The committee informed Lambuth University of two areas that still need improvement: compliance and gender-equity. These concerns were brought up during last year's report. "We have improved tremendously over the past year. We have made great strides in both areas, however, we still have some more work to do before being eligible for Division II status," says Brown of the improvements. Members of the NCAA committee will visit the LU campus later this fall to review the status of the athletic program and the institution as a whole. "The next step will occur when the annual report is submitted before the June 1st, 2011 deadline," adds Brown. In the meantime, Brown credits the President of Lambuth University for continuing the quest for Division II candidacy. "It really helps that we have a President who is so supportive of our athletic program," says Brown.
